Roots of Insight

Self-Paced Dharma Study Guides for Essential Dharma Books
Roots of Insight is a growing collection of self-paced study guides, each centered on a single Dharma book. Each guide is divided into carefully designed sessions—ranging in number depending on the depth and length of the book. Within each session, you’ll find introductory videos, key passages from the book, reflection prompts, practice suggestions, and occasional guided meditations to support experiential insight and grounded integration. These study guides support both new and seasoned meditators in developing a lived relationship with the Dhamma—one rooted in mindfulness, compassion, and insight.
Practice through Scholarship
Why I Created These Study Guides
When I began diving into Dharma books as part of my own practice, I often found myself moved, inspired—and sometimes overwhelmed. The depth of the teachings stirred something in me, but I wished I had more structure, more context, and someone to walk alongside me, even just a little.
Over time, I pieced together my own way of reading, reflecting, and applying the teachings—not just intellectually, but in daily life. Roots of Insight is the kind of resource I wish I had back then: something steady, spacious, and supportive, offering guidance without rushing the process.
These study guides aren’t about checking off chapters. They’re about entering into a conversation with the Dharma. My hope is that they help you cultivate a direct, lived relationship with the teachings—at your own rhythm, with the support you need to stay grounded, engaged, and inspired.
In friendship and practice,
Johnathan
